Yes, it is more expensive, but it has all the room we need for our growing family, and is durable enough that I can easily see it outlasting our vehicle. It is light weight, but I wouldn't call it fragile. The only scenario I can imagine it cracking is through abuse, like someone stepping right on the middle of it or something.There is a huge amount of space. It has pretty much the same footprint as our three-cushion sofa. I worried that it would protrude off the front badly on our Kia Sedona, but it fits nicely and looks like it belongs there. It's unobtrusive enough that we don't mind just leaving it on there if it's only a couple weeks until the next trip. We borrowed a fabric cargo bag previously, which we always took off when unpacking at our destination because inevitably a strap end would come loose and bang all over the place.
